Procedure Trochanter Bursa Infiltration

Position and anatomical landmarks

Patient is positioned on the unaffected side with a pillow between the knees. The greater trochanter of the hip is palpated and marked at its most lateral point.

Procedure

After sterile preparation of the area, the needle (22-G) is inserted (under ultrasound guidance) and 4 ml bupivacaine 0.25% with 40 mg depot corticosteroid is injected (under ultrasound guidance).

Complications

  • The most serious complication after the injection is infection.
  • Small subcutaneous bleedings may result in a temporary increase in pain after the injection.
