Partcipation of Patients in Research

What if my patient is asked to participate in research?

Much research still needs to be carried out on the causes and treatment of pain. So the patient may well be asked by his pain specialist to take part in a research study.

Strict rules apply to such studies, and the patient will first be provided with oral and written information on the purpose of the study, on any possible harmful effects, on how long the study will last, and on whether the patient will be reimbursed for his costs.

It is important to remember that, should the patient decide not to take part in a particular study, this will have no consequences on his treatment at our outpatient clinic. Moreover, the patient will always have the right to end his participation in a study at any time, without having to provide us with any reason.
