What is Infrapatellar neuralgia?

Infrapatellar neuralgia is a painful disorder of the infrapatellar nerve due to damage and/or loss of function in the nerve.

Cause

Infrapatellar neuralgia is usually seen after an accident (when the knee hits the dashboard), or following knee replacement surgery, exploratory knee surgery or meniscus surgery.

Signs and symptoms

The symptoms in infrapatellar neuralgia usually consist of an uncomfortable painful sensation at the front and inner side of the knee. Patients complain of severe burning and stabbing pain.

How is Infrapatellar neuralgia diagnosed?

The diagnosis can be made based on the symptoms and by exclusion of other causes. A neurological examination must always take place.

Multidisciplinary Treatment
