Multidisciplinary Pain Team

What is the Multidisciplinary Pain Team?

Since pain is a subject dealt with by several different medical specialities (disciplines), UPCM has put together a team in which all the main disciplines are represented.

These disciplines include anaesthesiology/pain management, neurology, neurosurgery, orthopaedics, psychiatry, rehabilitation medicine, medical psychology, and gastrointestinal and liver diseases.

The pain team meets weekly to discuss the patients treated at UPCM from their various points of view. So the pain management specialist who is treating you may tell you that your case will be discussed at a meeting of the Multidisciplinary Pain Team. This team, which includes your own specialist as well as others, will discuss what would be the best treatment for you and/or what further examinations are needed. If necessary, other specialists may be invited to attend the team meeting.

Your pain specialist will tell you what has been discussed at the team meeting. If necessary, you will be given an appointment at another outpatient clinic, an option that your pain specialist will already have discussed with you at the previous consultation.
