Psychological Treatment

What is psychological treatment?

During the multidisciplinary team meeting, and based on the results the pain questionnaires completed by you before the commencement of treatment, a decision is taken on the kind of psychological examination and treatment you require. The results of these pain questionnaires are important when deciding whether you need an additional psychological examination. In its turn, this psychological examination provides information as to whether psychological treatment is advisable.

Your pain specialist always discusses the multidisciplinary team's advice to undergo an additional psychological examination and/or psychological treatment with you. The final decision on whether or not you take this advice is always up to you.

During such psychological treatment, the psychologist will always have a talk with you first in order to discover what the consequences of the pain mean to your daily life, and what kinds of restrictions you experience due to this pain. Depending on the psychologist's conclusions, he will propose a particular psychological treatment.

Such psychological treatment can vary from personal therapy to behavioural group therapies. Since there are so many different kinds of psychological therapy in existence, no further details can be provided here.

Psychological treatment can also be part of a rehabilitation programme for your pain complaints.
