Should my complaints be treated by a specific UPCM doctor?

When you make an appointment for your first consultation at the outpatient clinic, you are normally assigned to one of our medical staff or to a trainee doctor. If you have been treated at the outpatient clinic by a particular doctor before, we will try to ensure that your appointment is with the same doctor.

In some cases, you may be referred to a specific doctor within the UPCM Outpatient Pain Clinic who specialises in a particular type of pain and its treatment.

If you are suffering from CRPS, or the doctor who has referred you to UPCM suspects you to have this condition, you will be referred to a special surgery hour, where you will be examined by a pain specialist, a surgeon and a rehabilitation specialist (multidisciplinary CRPS team).

If you have cancer pain, you will be referred to a special UPCM outpatient clinic, where you will be seen by a doctor who specialises in this type of pain and its treatment.

We are also in the process of organising a special surgery hour for patients with painful neuropathies.

Finally, the doctor who has referred you to UPMC may also refer you to a particular specialist at the outpatient clinic, in view of your specific complaints.
