Visceral Pain

What is visceral pain?

Visceral pain is caused by damage to the tissues of the internal organs and is, as such, nociceptive pain.

The patient frequently presents with diffusely-located pain, in contrast to other nociceptive pain originating in the locomotion system. The patient can locate this pain precisely.

Since visceral pain is frequently hard to treat, other mechanisms can underlie this type of pain.
